Born in 1981 in Friedrichroda, Germany, Julia Kirchner studied voice and voice pedagogy in Leipzig with Jeanette Favaro-Reuter and in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Penelope McKay. She completed further studies in Early Music with Marek Rzepka in Leipzig and Sara Mingardo at the Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia in Rome, as well as studying Lied as a Duo with pianist Nao Aiba with Karl-Peter Kammerlander in Weimar. Julia also studied Italian and French at the Leipzig University and Università Roma Tre.

Specializing in early music, Julia recieved further training with Christoph Prégardien, Harry van der Kamp, Jill Feldmann, Peter van Heyghen and Susanne Scholz. Julia is particulary interested in historically informed baroque opera, and gainined important insights into the art of gesture through working with Sigrid T'Hooft.

Most recent roles on stage include Venus in Kusser's Adonis (stage director: Sigrid T'Hooft, musical director: Peter van Heyghen) within the International Händel Academy Karlsruhe, Philothas in Heinichen's Die lybische Talestris (stage director: Sigrid T'Hooft, musical director: Susanne Scholz) for the Bachfest Leipzig and Ottavia in L'incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi for Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg (stage director: Arila Siegert and musical director: Raphael Alpermann).   

An experienced concert singer and recitalist, Julia has performed with ensembles such as the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Staatskapelle Dresden, La Banda and Le Concert Lorrain and has sung as a soloist for festivals including Bachfest Leipzig, Händelfestspiele Halle, Thüringer Bachwochen and La Chaise Dieu (France).

Julia has been a prize-winner and finalist of several international competitions such as at the 4° Concorso di Musica Antica in Vicenza (Italy), the International Competition „Johann Sebastian Bach“ Leipzig 2008, the International Soloists Competition for Early Music Schärdingen (Austria) 2010 as well as the International Singing Competition Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg 2005 and 2011.
